A Piece of Art
by Penelope
I wish I could bash my skull open and welcome you into my mind.
Introducing you to all the wonders of my world…It’s such a beauty up there!
I wish I could tear my eyes from their sockets and give them to you so you can see things from my point of view, but not for long, because you are precious to me and I wouldn’t want to hurt you.
My mind is like trash-art. Although it’s a bit messy, I promise my
thoughts
are
genuine.
I see the rain that pours and the sun that shines, yet I am confined within these damn walls hidden from the beauty of it all!
I wish I could burn off my ears and lend them to you so you could hear the faint claps of thunder that follow the gentle rain that
falls
onto
the Earth’s surface
and becomes one.
My mind expands beyond this world, and up here, there are sights no man has laid eyes upon because I'm guarded and hidden in a place where no one will ever find me.
…Except for you, my love. I’ll let you find me, and I’ll open my mind for you to find sanctuary.
I can be home to you. I can do so much for you. Give me time, and I'll prove that I'm worth it.
I can make you so happy, and I can show you the world from your room.
…All I ask is that you let me stay with you safely, in your pocket,
afraid to drop me.

This poem started out as something for my younger self then slowly turned into something I could use in every relationship, from mother to daughter to pet and owner. This poem is simply about love and one's self. There was no master plan in creating this. I just wrote what I thought, and with the help of my English teacher, I was able to create something beautiful. I hope that when you read this you are able to sit back and think, “Wow, what a great writer!” Enjoy.
