The Secret Diary

“Secret Diary?” Jane smirked, “not much of a secret anymore, eh?”

“Yeah, I suppose you’re right. Riley shouldn’t be hiding anything from us. We’re her friends.” Priscilla agreed, though she wasn’t quite sure why. It was wrong, she knew that. But Jane didn’t seem to think so. Jane seemed to find a lot of wrong things okay these days, and Priscilla couldn’t dream of crossing her.

Jane grabbed the book from Priscilla’s hands.

“Now, what have we here?”

Jane flipped to a page marked My Crush with hand-drawn pink hearts and flowers surrounding a name etched with a calligraphy pen.

“Olivia Green? But? She can’t be Riley’s crush. She’s a she. It’s dirty.”

“Jane. We shouldn’t have done this. It's her business. Not ours.”

Priscilla pulled on Jane’s sleeve, urging her away. Jane slapped her hand away and pulled her phone out of her backpack. The camera clicked on and flashed.

“There. Now everyone will know.”

Jane shoved the phone towards Priscilla and showed her a picture of the book, with the caption Riley’s dirty secret.

“Jane, that’s wrong.”

“What? Do you think this is okay? It’s not natural, and if she’s going to go about doing this, then people have the right to know,” Jane retorted.

Priscilla narrowed her eyes.

“You know Jane, you have a way screwing things up for people just for your enjoyment.”

“Excuse me?”

“You heard what I said. Give me the phone.”

“No.”

“I said, give me the phone.”

Priscilla tore the phone from Jane’s hands and deleted the post, clicking the phone off and pocketing it.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me,” Priscilla stated calmly,” I’m going to report you to the principal for invasion of the privacy of my dear friend Riley.”

“You wouldn’t dare.”

“Yeah, I would. Bye, Jane. Have fun during your suspension.”

Coming out should not be something that is pushed, but something that comes on the young person's own terms. I know all too well that being pushed to come out or "outed" is never a good thing.
